Mavis’ Story – Internship (Episode 8 of 9)

Following is Mavis’ story (not her real name), one of courage and determination in the face of overwhelming obstacles and challenges.

You can hear Mavis tell her story on Family Radio CHRI 99.1 FM, each week day just after station identification at 8 am and 5 pm.

Parts of her story are messy, and always real, as is the wonderful lady who will find a special place in your heart.

Hi, I’m Ken Maclaren. Here out Christmas Story takes a turn as Mavis finds a new opportunity in Episode 8:

The Internship Program is where you work for an employer for a couple of hours a week, or maybe more, depending on the placement.

It’s a beginning point and provides experience without having to do full time work right away. You get to see what the job is, and possibly you might work at that job forever.

I worked at Highjinx, an antique shop which also helps people in need. My job was to pack and hand out bags of food to our neighbors.

There are not enough words to describe how great this was. I was able to help people who didn’t have an awful lot, even though I didn’t have an awful lot myself. Giving food to help people eat for the next few days made me so very, very happy.

I am so excited for my next Internship! It will open a huge window for future work and is an amazing opportunity!

Merry Christmas!
