Some friends and colleagues, upon learning that I volunteer with OIM, will compliment me, describing my actions as “generous”.
Indeed! I witness a great deal of generosity through volunteering with OIM.
This past week alone:
One street friend generously offered me some Halloween candy.
Another offered me a sip from some holiday libations (turned down, but it’s the thought that counts).
Another welcomed me to sit with them, in order to share in the festive mood.
Another gave me his name – a precious gift.
Yet another shared his vulnerability, asking me to pray with him for his fears and health concerns.
There is plenty of generosity at OIM, but I receive it, rather than give it.
