Advocacy happens when we speak on behalf of the disadvantaged. It can be as simple as assisting a street friend to fill out a form or make a telephone call for a friend who suffers from schizophrenia and can’t make himself understood to his landlord. Referrals happen in much the same way as we refer street friends to services in the City, such as a mental health program, drug rehabilitation clinic or other valuable program. At OIM, staff and volunteers provide this kind of ‘everyday’ advocacy and referrals each and every week through our main services and programs:
