IVOS Tribute Luncheon 2024
About the Event
We are thrilled to share a fundraising event to support Veterans in need. Your attendance will go a long way in helping Veterans in need, and all proceeds from this year’s event will support Veterans facing poverty and homelessness. The event will be at the beginning of Veterans’ Week 2024 as we pay tribute to those who have fought for our country.

This year, we are hosting our second annual Innercity Veterans Outreach and Support (IVOS) luncheon. Last year was a great success, and we would love for you to attend this year's IVOS Luncheon. We will welcome Brigadier-General (Retired) Alan Mulawyshyn, Executive Director for Veterans House Canada, who will speak about the importance of “Supporting those who Served.”

Brigadier-General (Retired) Alan Mulawyshyn's speech will help you understand the impact homelessness has on Veterans and how we can help support our Veterans who bravely fought for the freedom of our country.

About our Speaker
Brigadier-General (Ret’d) Alan Mulawyshyn joined Veterans’ House Canada in October 2021 as Deputy Executive Director following a 40-year career with the Canadian Armed Forces as an Army Engineer Officer. On 1 November 2023, Alan accepted the position of Executive Director. Alan graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) with a Civil Engineering degree and also has a master’s degree in Defence Studies from RMC. While in the Forces, he has lived and served across Canada and around the world, including operational tours on the Iraq/Kuwait border, in Kosovo and in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Alan is looking forward to this new challenge of replicating the success of Veterans’ House (Ottawa); the Andy Carswell Building, in other cities across Canada where there is the need to help homeless Veterans.
Background – History of IVOS and OIM
The Innercity Veterans Outreach and Support (IVOS) program is an Ottawa-based support program that comes alongside and supports homeless Veterans in the downtown core. Our volunteers are on the streets of Ottawa every day searching for homeless Veterans, and providing emergency support in the form of clothing, sandwiches and drinks. Our IVOS program also conducts a weekly Veterans’ drop-in, and a monthly Veterans movie night. Our weekly program provides food and toiletries to Veterans from our main office at 391 Gladstone Avenue. Our full-time staff and volunteers, many of whom are Veterans, also support Veterans one on one, and provide Veterans with a monthly newsletter. The program has been supporting Veterans facing poverty and homelessness since 2019 and is supported by the Government of Canada.
In addition to our IVOS program, our staple ministry is our Street Outreach. Our street teams, made up of volunteers, go out every night of the week, 365 days a year, meeting the needs of our street friends where they are. Our Innercity Arts program offers a meal, access to a food bank, and time for the youth to exercise their creative side through visual or musical arts. Our Door Outreach program supplies essential resources (such as socks, blankets, sleeping bags, and food) on Tuesdays to people experiencing homelessness, while on Thursdays during the cold winter months, our building houses all our winter jackets, hats, gloves, socks, and more for our Winterwear program. Street Friends are welcomed into the building to come alongside their “personal shopper,” a volunteer excited to be of service, and take away what they might need to survive our brutal winter weather.
