Crucial funding received to continue helping Veterans in need

News Release: Ottawa Innercity Ministries Secures Funding from The Legion National Foundation to Support At-risk and Homeless Veterans in the Nation’s Capital.

OTTAWA, ON, January 5, 2026 — Ottawa Innercity Ministries (OIM), a non-profit in the nation’s capital dedicated to serving Ottawa’s most vulnerable populations, announced today that they are the recipient of crucial funding from The Legion National Foundation. This funding is dedicated to the continuous support given to homeless and at-risk Veterans through their Innercity Veterans Outreach and Support (IVOS) program. This funding will help OIM continue supporting at-risk Veterans and providing essential services.

Accelerating Support and Outreach: The Impact

This funding will be strategically deployed to accelerate key areas within the IVOS program, including:

  • Strengthening Community Fellowship: Securing the continuity of the weekly IVOS Fellowship and monthly Movie Nights, which offer Veterans a safe, welcoming space for camaraderie, practical support, and meals.

  • One-on-One Support: Enhancing resources for personalized assistance, helping Veterans navigate social services, verification requests, and more.

  • Sustained Stability: Ensuring long-term continuity for the program, which is critical for building trust and achieving lasting positive change for at-risk Veterans.

Quotes

“This funding is an investment in our duty and privilege to support those who served us. With every Veteran that walks through our doors, they are met with a friendly volunteer, who also served in the Canadian Armed Forces. Regardless of the Veteran’s background, they come to a place where they are welcomed and honoured. They are provided with essential support, a meal, and camaraderie, avoiding isolation. The funds received from The Legion National Foundation are essential to helping OIM uphold its mission. I am profoundly grateful for their support, which helps OIM ensure that every Veteran who comes to us is cared for.”

Colonel (Retired) Gerry Potter, Executive Director, Ottawa Innercity Ministries

“At the very heart of our work is the guiding principle that no Veteran should be left behind. It is this commitment that drives our support of the Innercity Veterans Outreach and Support program. We are honoured to partner in building a community where at-risk and homeless Veterans are welcomed, supported, and empowered to rebuild their lives. We proudly stand alongside OIM in fostering pathways of connection and stability for those who have served and sacrificed.”
