It amazes me how God has blessed OIM with many donors that quietly give on a regular basis – most have given for many years.
This allows the staff and volunteers to carry out the various ministries that OIM is involved in. Things like Door & Street Outreach, IVOS, and Innercity Arts.
A friend recommended a book to read called “Gospel Patrons” by John Rinehart. It was about people who most of us have never heard about but had funded famous people’s ministries. Like Humphrey Monmouth who funded William Tyndale’s efforts to translate the Bible into English in the early 16th century.
I was reading a devotional the other day on being generous and it talked about how Martin Luther once wrote that Christians have three conversions – of the mind, the heart, and the purse. I think for most of us the last conversion is the hardest one to trust God with.
Then in my Bible reading today I read the following in Proverbs 21:13 –
“Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered”.
There are passages in the Bible that are tough to read because they force us to take a look in the mirror and evaluate how we are doing in light of what we just read - this is one of those passages.
I thank the many donors who have heard the cry of the poor and have had a conversion of the purse. They support those on the front line who are helping the many homeless and hurting that cross our path.
