New Life

Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

This morning on the way out my front door I passed by the hanging plant which contained a robins nest with three eggs for the last 2 3- weeks. Since the weather was very hot and mother bird was off the nest I rushed into the house to get a pitcher of water to water the plant before mother bird sat on the nest again.

When I lifted down the planter to my great amazement I saw the three light blue eggs had hatched and three skimpy, half feathered baby robins were nestling together at the bottom of the nest.

I quietly watered the plant, careful not to splash the baby birds, and placed the planter back up on its nail. Always in the past when I watered the nest the mother bird would screech at me from the neighbouring roof top.  However, this time she was still in the same location but was completely silent. Father watched further away also, silent.

Was she in utter fear of me being so close to her new family or silent because she trusted me and don’t want to alarm the baby chicks? I don’t know which but she looked on as if she caringly trusted what I had done in the past, knowing her babies would be fine.

It seemed to me, at that moment, as if it was like our  service we do at OIM where God carefully watches over us as we serve Him in helping and working with our Street Friends. He watches over us as a caring mother/father bird would do, trusting that his children need to learn to care for others.

God blesses us all as we learn to love those whom he cares for and whom He brought into this world.

May He bless OIM; its staff, volunteers and street friends as we all grow together, trusting in His care.
