First Aid and CPR - Saving Lives

Over the last few weeks some of our staff and volunteers have taken a First Aid and CPR course at OIM to be ready in the event of finding someone in a medical emergency. The skills learned in this course can be anything from a simple band-aid to life saving CPR.

CPR in the physical sense is Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. It is a method used to provide oxygen and pump blood through a person’s body when the heart has stopped beating. In short, it can save lives and give people a second chance at life.

While many of us (God willing) may never have CPR administered to us or by us, we have all at some point in our lives needed to receive or give first aid of some sort. Whether a band aid for a scraped knee from falling off our bikes as a child or perhaps a sling or splint for a broken bone, none of us have gone through life unscathed.

There is a CPR that everyone needs. Christ Purchased Rescue (Ransom). Our OIM Youth Ministry and Outreach Teams (Door, Street and IVOS), are on the frontlines to help provide spiritual first aid by showing that every person they come across is cared for and valued, and perhaps in doing so helping heal some hurts along the way. I would like to think that with the continued interactions every team has with the clients it meets, some will receive spiritual CPR by seeing the love that Christ has for them and will allow Him to rescue them.

Psalm 147:3 (TPT) “He heals the wounds of every shattered heart.”

John 3:17 (TPT) “God did not send his Son into the world to judge and condemn the world, but to be its Savior and rescue it!”
