A Word of Encouragement

Hebrews 13:16 says “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased”.

This verse states that God is pleased when we do good and share with others. Helping others isn’t just a nice thing to do, or a good suggestion; it is a commandment. John the Baptist responds to the question, “What should we do then?” with ``Whoever has two shirts must share with the one who has none, and whoever has food must do the same” (Luke 3:10-11).

James 2 describes that our faith is nothing if we are not serving and helping others. To know of a need and do nothing to help shows a faith that is dead - “faith by itself, unaccompanied by actions, is dead (vs. 17).

Finally, John 13:35 - “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love and unselfish concern for one another.” Others, especially those outside the Body of Christ will see our actions and know that our love for God is real. I’ve seen this in my own life; when others see us serving with love they are drawn to know Jesus themselves.

OIM does an amazing job through its staff and volunteers helping those that need help. They are out on the street daily providing resources, food, encouragement and the love of God to those that need it. So, let us continue to serve Jesus and show love to our friends on the street and in our communities.
