Finding Hope on the Streets of Ottawa

Every week, OIM Street Outreach teams walk the streets of downtown Ottawa carrying sandwiches, water, clothing, and other practical items. Yet what we often discover is that the greatest need is not food or clothing, it is connection.
Behind every request for a sandwich is a story.
A woman grieving the loss of her husband while waiting for heart surgery. A young man searching for work and purpose. Someone battling addiction and longing for freedom. A cancer patient facing chemotherapy. A man struggling with loneliness after losing his home. A woman overwhelmed by grief who wondered if she would ever see her loved ones again.
These are not simply people we serve. They are people we know by name.
In recent weeks, our volunteers have met individuals seeking healing, housing, employment, recovery, comfort, and hope. Many have asked for prayer. Others simply wanted someone to stop, listen, and remind them that they matter.
One volunteer shared a beautiful moment when a woman named Lena joined the team as they prayed before beginning outreach. Another team had the privilege of praying with a grieving woman who chose to place her faith in Jesus. Time and again, we witness how a simple conversation, a listening ear, or a prayer can become a powerful expression of God's love.
Street Outreach is about more than meeting immediate needs. It is about demonstrating the message of Christ in both deed and word. It is about reminding people that they are not invisible, not forgotten, and not beyond hope.
As our teams continue to serve, we ask for your prayers for those living with homelessness, addiction, illness, grief, and uncertainty. Pray also for our volunteers as they faithfully walk alongside some of Ottawa's most vulnerable residents.
Together, we continue to share a simple but powerful message: You are seen. You are valued. You are loved.
