Here at OIM, I get the privilege of serving alongside many amazing volunteers ‘behind the scenes.’ One such volunteer is consistently bringing donations that she has collected from friends and neighbors throughout the week. I want to share a short story this volunteer shared with me a couple of months ago.
“During the winterwear outreach, a tall and sturdy man needed a coat his size. None were available that day, so I turned to prayer for God's direction. At my church the following Sunday, I saw two men about the right size, but they left before I had the opportunity to ask them. Leaving the church sanctuary and heading into the foyer, I was suddenly face to face with another friend. ‘Hey, do you have an extra winter jacket you would give to me for someone in need?’ I asked. The man replied, ‘Yes, I have a very good one and a very good sweater to wear under it for extra warmth.’
I picked up the two items on Monday and delivered them to OIM on Tuesday. Who was happier, more grateful, and more excited - the recipient, the donor, or I, who delivered God's timely gift?! Praise His name, for He is good and faithful.”
