Jesus on the Streets

One of the pleasures that comes with working at OIM is hearing the stories and perspectives of our volunteers. Below, one of our new volunteers describes his first experience serving on Street Outreach.

“Personally, I think the big takeaway … was seeing how the rich and poor live together on the same sidewalk, same storefront. I don’t go downtown often, and I think it was a revealing picture of how people on absolute opposite sides of the spectrum are literally rubbing shoulders with each other.

The other takeaway, and this is credit to OIM, is to see the needy reach out for the carts and those wearing the red vests. I had people chase me down or wave me over from across the streets. I imagine people did the same when they saw Jesus; I would have, knowing what He has to offer. People genuinely reach out for help knowing their need, and the poor just recognize it way better than the rich.”

What a beautiful opportunity it is to represent Christ to the poor and needy. What a joyous honour to be used by God as a way for Him to provide food, community, and the gospel to his precious children. Please pray that when people look at the staff and volunteers at OIM, they see Jesus and his love for them.
