Following is Mavis’ story (not her real name), one of courage and determination in the face of overwhelming obstacles and challenges.
You can hear Mavis tell her story on Family Radio CHRI 99.1 FM, each week day just after station identification at 8 am and 5 pm.
Parts of her story are messy, and always real, as is the wonderful lady who will find a special place in your heart.
Mavis’ continues in our Christmas Story, here is Episode 4. Listen as she shares about her teen years:
I was bullied all through public school, grade 7 & 8, especially when I went to a new school. I was pushed into lockers. I was bumped and pushed as people went around me, all the time. Sometimes, I got bruises. I didn’t want to go to school and finally I told my mom about the bullies.
Mom marched right down to the school and gave the principal the names of the kids bullying me. Next year, when I started grade 9, the bullying stopped.
We moved a lot. Mom was not able to pay for the rent sometimes, and some landlords would not take people who were on assistance.
I can remember living in seven different apartments before I got to high school.
Young children face hardships that are never forgotten, ones that leave permanent scars on their lives. Supportive relationships, unconditional love and a caring community can help.
Stay tuned for the next episode of Mavis’ story, coming soon.
Thanks so much for your prayers and support that allow us to continue to reach out to young people just like Mavis.
Merry Christmas!
