More Than Just a Meal

During our Summer BBQ Meal, one thing that stood out was how easy it can be to connect when we take a moment to talk.
A simple example was the World Cup. It quickly became a shared topic that brought everyone into the same conversation. People talked about their favourite teams, recent games, and predictions. Some followed it closely, others joined in with curiosity, but everyone had something to add.
From there, the conversation naturally moved into other things like news, music, different cultures, and everyday life. It was a reminder that there is often more common ground than we expect.
Even when people come from very different life experiences, there are still shared interests and awareness of what is happening in the world. Sometimes we just need to ask a question and listen.
Moments like this feel like a small reflection of something bigger, that we are created to connect and to see one another with dignity and care. Connection is not about having the same story. It is about being open enough to find the overlap.
What stayed with me is how much understanding can grow from something as simple as a conversation. In these moments, I am reminded of the way Jesus calls us to love others in how we see and treat them.
