Renewed Resolve
Fall is a time of renewed resolve as we take stock of ourselves and our missionary zeal, which we hopefully refreshed and renewed over the summer months through holidays and summer vacation getaways with family and friends. I enjoyed a relaxing two weeks back home in the Province of Quebec, visiting family and friends in both Quebec City and Montreal. I came back refreshed and ready to take on both health-related challenges, which had been awaiting an outcome since January, as well as sinking my teeth back into the meat and potatoes (with veggies of course!) of my ORH Veterans ministry.
I found myself with a fairly lengthy backlog of emails and phone messages to answer, which led to some follow-ups and new intakes. I’d like to focus this month on a success story from a follow-up that I’ve been tracking since earlier on in the summer. Let’s call him Dennis. Dennis saw my picture in an OC Transpo bus and called me up, and we’ve been meeting off and on ever since. Dennis has had his share of ups and downs during his military career, but has always maintained a relationship with Jesus, which has helped strengthen his resolve to get back on track after much hardship, trauma, substance use, and family breakdown.
We got Dennis housed in a transitional unit, then recently got him an interview with a Veterans-specific organization, which recently told him that he is on the shortlist for one of their studio units that will free up shortly. Alleluia! Dennis called me to thank me today and to say that he’d felt warmly welcomed by that organization, and to thank OIM for the help we’d given him with groceries, transit, housing, emotional support, prayer, etc.
So our missionary zeal continues unabated and renewed with vim and vigour after a summer refresher. May you keep us in your prayers going forward into the fall of 2026.
