A Sad Reality

Recently, while at church, I met someone new. When he asked what I did for a living, I mentioned that I work for OIM. To my surprise, he was already very familiar with the mission and the work we do.

We chatted briefly before the service began, and I shared that while working at OIM is a profound blessing, it’s also deeply challenging. Each day, OIM is confronted with the difficult circumstances faced by so many of our street friends.

When he asked how long I had been with OIM, I realized it had been over two years. Wow. How time flies. What I realized, though, was that since I joined the team, OIM has increased its street connections by over 10,000 in just two years, an average of 5,000 more people per year.

It’s truly a heartbreaking reality. Why are we seeing so many more people reaching out each year? Has Ottawa really become too expensive a city to live in?

The reality that our numbers continue to grow is so sad. And I want to say thank you to our donors and supporters. Thank you for helping us meet this increasing demand. It is only by God’s grace that we can sustain this work, and it is through your unwavering generosity that it is possible.

I, and the entire OIM team, are so grateful and thankful for your generosity. May God bless you abundantly.
