Following is Mavis’ story (not her real name), one of courage and determination in the face of overwhelming obstacles and challenges.
You can hear Mavis tell her story on Family Radio CHRI 99.1 FM, each week day just after station identification at 8 am and 5 pm.
Parts of her story are messy, and always real, as is the wonderful lady who will find a special place in your heart.
Hi, I’m Mavis from the Innercity Arts program with OIM.
When Ken asked me if I would tell my story here on family radio CHRI, I happily agreed.
I thought if I could help someone understand that life is not the same for everyone, the world would be a better place.
I thought if people could hear my story, we might be able to help more people. People on the streets and even people in houses who might feel the way I felt, can maybe find hope for the future, and live a better life.
