July 15th was a beautiful day in Ottawa and OIM held our first outdoor volunteer appreciation event since COVID. It also served as a recognition that this is OIM’s 35th Anniversary. We took over a part of Vincent Massey Park (VMP), which if you have not been there lately, is still as nice a park as is was 25 years ago, back in the days of the Teddy Bears Picnic (when my son as young we never missed one of these events in VMP).
OIM’s Pastor Shawn and his wife, Sue, took charge of the games that luckily had a hefty component of water involved, given the temperature that day!
We did a devotional that was acted out. It was the story of the Good Samaritan and it was a lot of fun. The volunteer coordinator was volunteered to be play the person that was beaten up and robbed on the side of the road (at least I didn’t have to play the Donkey!) This was a rather creative way to do a devotional/teaching, and I definitely will draw on this experience going forward.
For 35 years OIM has been making a difference on the streets of Downtown Ottawa and I personally want to thank all of those who are out there helping now and just as importantly all those that HAVE BEEN there for the past 35 years making the world a better place one smile at a time!
