Small Groups

We can all live an experience, and yet all walk away with a different perception of the same situation.

For example, we see many broken people on the street. As I have spoken with them over the years, I have come to realize that their lives often mirrored mine at one point. But thank God, I was in a place in my life that allowed me to make healthier decisions to deal with those traumas.

Too often, I talk to people who are suffering the loss of children and spouses through divorce or death, and they are not able to get past that injury. Sadly, the fact is that as we experience such traumas, we need support networks to help us through, yet often these events have stripped us of the most primary support network, our immediate family. The result for many is that they turn to substances to drown out the pain, and the spiral begins.  The further one sinks, the harder it is to come back.

Two great ways to build our Church Community are to stay around for a coffee after service and get to know those you worship with. Another way to find community within a Church is through their small groups or Bible study groups.

The larger the Church, the easier it is to get lost in the crowd. So, let’s make sure our Church community is not just a Sunday community. Small Groups have really helped me out over the years in providing companionship, support and spiritual growth. Talk to your Church and see if they have small groups, and take advantage of them.  If they do not have any at present, talk to them about starting one, or feel free to contact me. I will help point you in the direction of a resource or two to help you find or maybe even start your own small group.

God bless, and let’s take care of each other.

Beautifully said, Brian. It’s true—trauma can isolate us, and without community, it becomes even harder to find healing. I love your reminder that Church shouldn’t just be a Sunday event but a source of ongoing support and connection. Small groups have been a lifeline for so many, and it’s encouraging to see leaders like you championing them.

And on a related note, creating spaces—both emotional and physical—that foster peace and connection is so important. If you're looking to transform your outdoor space into a place for reflection or gathering, this landscape design in Hamilton team does incredible work. A thoughtfully designed environment can truly become an extension of the community and sanctuary we build with others.
