The Lord's Work Continues

There is good news on the Veterans front for ORH. This seemingly never-ending battle of homelessness, especially precariously housed Veterans who are at imminent risk of becoming homeless, saw a definite ray of sunshine as we approach spring.

I speak of ORH’s latest victory in alleviating Veterans Homelessness. Let’s call him "Bill." Bill contacted me some time after Christmas and was in dire need of transitional housing to get him out of a bad situation. He was heavily in debt, getting his vehicle repossessed, behind on his many payments, had suffered a conjugal breakdown, and had multiple Operational Stress-related issues that he was trying to resolve with VAC, all with limited income support from the government. During all this, he was living in a remote location on the edge of town, just off the OC Transpo transit grid, and facing a possible near-term expulsion from his less-than-ideal basement apartment.

Subsequent to doing the requisite paperwork for his intake, including Service Verification, we found him a suitable transitional housing unit closer in town, which ORH/OIM is paying for, and helped this Veteran with utility arrears. Operation Road Home/OIM also paid for other disability-related costs, and moving/storage expenses, all of which would not have been possible given his limited means, and current difficult personal circumstances.

So Glory Alleluia, ORH and OIM are making a difference in the lives of Veterans in Ottawa. This is but one example of many others whom we help on a daily and ongoing basis at ORH/OIM and IVOS, along with my Associates Elizabeth and Richard. Together, we are devoted to making the lives of our Veterans more dignified and livable here in the Nation’s Capital.

So, although Spring has not yet completely sprung, I can say with certainty that the joy of the Resurrection is being felt in the work we do here at ORH, OIM and IVOS. Alleluia! He is Risen (Mathew 28:6).
